We ate breakfast here a couple weeks back during the Iron man competition. L&L is chain restaurant, and this place is very similar to all the other L&L's I have been to. It hits the spot for me when I am craving my comfort foods. The prices are average for a Hawaiian plate lunch, and the portions ample. My wife's seafood plate was probably enough to feed my entire family of four (well, my daughters are toddlers and don't eat much). I wish there was an L&L in Virginia... well maybe not, as I would probably be way overweight if there was one.

I have lived in Kona 25 years. Last night my wife went to pick up saimin, since I was down and out with a fever. Saimin is not complex, and the saimin I usually get at Big Island Grill is excellent. Unfortunately they're closed on Sunday. At any rate, we decided to try L&L. Big Mistake! Quite possibly the worst saimin I've ever had; inedible. My wife felt the same about her meal as well. You can find much better places to go in Kona.

Just about the worst food I've ever spent money on. L&L should have spot checks to see how their franchises are doing. The people at the counter were rude and abrupt. The Korean chicken tasted old and the hamburger steak had some kind of light tasteless mushroom soup gravy. I have to give it a star to post this, which it absolutely does not deserve.

Kalua pork and cabbage plate. With macaroni salad. = bomb. probably one of my best meals on the island. Had to have it twice! Portuguese sausage, eggs, hashbrown breakfast. The hashbrowns were lacking in flavor, but sausage is always good. BBQ short ribs, they were okay, but a little too fatty for my liking. Super slow service, so expect a decent wait.

There has been a lot of hype about the Ramen Burger recently. Having spent years in Japan, I am a fan of both ramen and novelty foods. After a day full of activity sufficient enough to make a ramen burger less of a guilty pleasure, I asked Siri to find me the nearest L&L. Walking in it was clear the place is dingy, a layer of stickiness coating any horizontal surface and one too many boxes stacked in the dining area. It was off-putting. But, whatever, some of the best food I've ever eaten has been served up in a dive. I approached the counter. No smile. No friendliness. No care that a customer was standing there waiting to order. When the counter girl finally acknowledged me, I asked about the ramen burger. "Saimin buger," she says expressionless. Uh, yes, okay. That then. I took my number and stood waiting. Handed a half closed box of food, I stepped outside to eat. The food was greasier than anything I have seen in my life. You couldn't hold the sucker it was so absolutely greasy! I promise I am not exaggerating here--it was repulsive. Two bites. That's how long I lasted. And I felt like a chump wasting an entire box of food.

This place is a local fav. Not only are the prices exceptional the good is traditional Hawaiian. As I awaited my egg n ham samich order, a local gentleman chatted me up. He offered me a bite of pork off his plate called the 'local moko' rice, eggs over easy & ham slices w/roast ham gravy...I pulled it off his fork & with messy gravy fingers ate in earnest which had him laughing out loud exclaiming "that's how the locals do it!" Overall excellent prices & great outdoor seating beneath the plumeria trees & turtle doves

After few hours of snorkeling, I stopped by for some food. Their food are amazing! The chicken bbq are so delicious and juicy. I love their macaroni salad. What a good combination. I can't describe how good it was. I probably at L&L like 4 times while I was here in Hawaii. I'm not sure if it's their local food but they did a great job!! I'm having cravings just writing about their food. Can't wait to come back and eat their food.

The pork and cabbage with double mac salad is the best. I have been here for 3 days and it was the first place I ate at and I am already back. I have 7 more days before I go back home and I know I will eat here several more times. I am thinking about going in to get mac salad to take back to the resort. Yum yum. Keep up the good work.

Worst meal we had the entire week on the island. Pretty much all three of us couldn't finish our meals due to the greasy, fatty, overly breaded, salty, chewy and tough food here. Save your stomach and go to a slightly more expensive restaurant and enjoy your food.

I only ate here because it was 10 PM and nothing else was really open. But seriously, surrounded by so much awesome food, try not to settle for this. Not one single person smiled at us (or anyone else) the entire time we were in the restaurant. Not to say that people weren't nice... well, maybe. What I'm saying is that the staff seemed like the customers were kind of bothering them and what they really wanted to do was shoo everyone out, clean up, and close up shop instead of taking anyone's orders. I get it, you're at closing time, but still. The katsu was blah. Greasy. I couldn't eat the macaroni salad, it was warm and tasted like the last bits of a batch they'd had all day. Two of us were sharing this and there were leftovers we never finished. It wasn't horrible exactly. Just saying that if you have options other than random fastfood joints, maybe try one of those instead.

I've been to a few L&L restaurants on the main land and this particular location was no different. The chicken katsu I ordered was cooked to perfection. The deep fried chicken coated in bread crumbs was crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. The katsu sauce was not overly sweet and complimented the chicken. The side of macaroni salad was on spot. L&L is a great place for affordable Hawaiian fast food.

This place was a let down for me. We were visiting Hawaii and looking for a good place to eat. We were burning up because of the heat and humidity outside and we were looking for an authentic place. The places we found were closed so we ended up here, at this fast food joint. The guy at the counter was RUDE!! RUDE RUDE RUDE. My boyfriend attributed it to him not speaking english well but regardless of that obstacle if someone cares about your question they will make an attempt to understand. This guy made no attempt whatsoever. We ordered and the place was FILTHY. The food was good but greasy and I wouldn't go back.

Eat here and you won't be sorry. I had a list of local favorites that I wanted to try and this place had the best tasting food for the lowest prices. Can't beat that. Get the BBQ chicken. I know it sounds plain and common but this place's cook to order method delivers hot and fresh fast! Two people can easily eat here for under 10-12 bucks. Not many places can make that happen on this island.

The only vegetarian option is a veggie burger, i asked them to make it like there normal bbq cheeseburger even though they were confused at first. Anyways it turned out being one of my best and cheapest meals while visiting Kona for a week.

A great place Hawaiian fastfood. Went there 2X while visitin the Big Island. Food came out fast, hot, and delicious. We loved the spam/mahi mahi musubis and the new york steak plate!

Sad to say that the best food the whole time we were on the Big Island was from a chain. We were lucky to have one of their daily specials - pork and garlic shrimp. The pork was a little crisp and covered in gravy. And the garlic shrimp was nicely battered and seasoned with garlic. We've been trying to find the same combo plate on the mainland but have yet to find the battered garlic shrimp again.

I am familiar with L&L on the mainland so thought that L&L would be just as good or better in Hawaii. My mistake. We went to the L&L off Palani Street. Mediocre kalua pig and cabbage and the lau lau needed salt?!? How is that possible? In Hawaii? They also didn't offer poi, like some of the other locations. And the bbq chicken musubi was not worth eating. So disappointing. I should have tried Sumo Deli.

The food here was really really good, I had the pulled pork with the cabbage, not sure what it was called, but it was really good. Athough the food was good, service was really horrible...maybe it was a language barrier thing or something, but it didn't have pictures and I was trying to get a better understanding of what I was ordering and the guy who was taking my order wasn't helping with the attitude I was getting. Well i guessed right on what I wanted, and as we sat down right above our heads was a big picture menu! This was exactly what I was looking for! All he could of said was, go and take a look at the picture menu. Because of this...they only get three starts...3 stars for the food. 0 stars for the service.

As folks who live in San Diego know...there's L&Ls and then there's L&Ls. Not all L&L locations are made the same even though they are a franchise chain. I'm happy to report that this is one of the good ones. Grabbed takeout at least three times (kalua pig-laulau plate, spam saimin, portugese sausage eggs and rice) while in Kona and each time the food was hot and tasty. I'm not a big fan of chains but it's always nice to have a fallback when visiting a less familiar town.

There's nothing I love more than meat and rice. And I was delighted to stuff myself with the hawaiian bbq beef teriyaki (and the short ribs as well), YUM! I'm sure that was like ordering a capellini at an italian restaurant, but oh well. Shoulda read Yong S's review before I went! The lau lau seems to be a popular order; couldn't help but overhear. And makes for good airplane food!! Hawaiian fastfood chain, I was told? Damn good...
